Carthage Dodges Deadly Bug on New Year’s Eve

January 2, 2023

Moore County may be recovering from a recent flu bug, but in Carthage, a buggy flew.  With the success of the pinecone drop in Southern Pines, Carthage decided to drop an object of its own for New Year’s Eve, an ole timey buggy.  Everyone loves a countdown to the new year, so the town decided to raise a buggy high in the air with a crane, and then lower it slowly with the countdown.  There was an issue with the crane operator, which led to the buggy being dropped right at the last second, crashing to the ground.  “I don’t understand what the big deal is.  I still dropped the darn thing when everyone yelled ONE”, said David Steven, the thirty-nine-year-old crane operator. He went into more detail, “My job was to slowly lower it until the clock got to zero, but how the heck am I supposed to time that perfectly?  I just figured that if I dropped the buggy at the last second, it’d be perfect”.  Perfect it was not. The buggy came crashing down in an intense fashion, falling directly onto a handicapped parking spot, which then led to David Steven receiving a parking ticket from a nearby officer. “I just don't get why this would mean I get a ticket for parking in a handicap spot when everyone knows I wasn’t driving the darn thing.”  When reporters spoke questioned the officer on why he would give a ticket meant for a car to someone operating a buggy, he replied, “This buggy is absolutely a car.  Everyone knows that the glitchiest car in the world is a little buggy.”
